WHEREAS MARK DEEMS of Pike Run Township, Washington County in the state of Pennsylvania son of Mark Deems and Elizabeth his wife and ANN RELEY daughter of John Reley of the township aforesaid and Mary his wife, having declared their intention of marriage with each other before a monthly meeting of the religious Society of Friends held at Westland according to the good order used among them, and having consent of parents their said proposal of marriage was allowed of by this meeting ____?_____ these are to certify whom it may concern that for the full accomplishment of their said intention this 13 day of the 5th month in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eleven, they, the said Mark Deems and Ann Reley appeared in a public meeting of the said people held at westland aforesaid, and the said Mark Deems taking the said Ann Reley by the and did openly declare that he took her the said Ann Reley to be his wife, promising with devine assistance to be unto her a loving and faithful husband until death should seperate them: and then, in the same assembly the said Ann Reley did in like manner declare that she took him the said Mark Deems to be her husband promising with devine assistance to be unto him a loving and faithful wife, until death should seperate them. And moreover, they, the said Mark Deems and Ann Reley (he according to custom of marriage assisioning the name of her husband) did, as a further confirmation thereof, then and here to these present set their hands. Mark and Ann had 120 1/2 acres on the 1850 Census, possibly the land they received when old Mark died. There is no death date for Mark but he died sometime after May 2, 1857 and 1859 when his estate was settled. Heirs listed for Mark Deems include: John R, Elizabeth, Peter, wife Elizabeth, Albert and his wife Elizabeth, and Harrison and his wife Catherine.

John Riley's Will recorded in Fayette County, PA Will book 1 Vol III, page 85, dated 29th January 1829, proven 4 July 1831 seems to indicate he married a second time. Wife Sara and her son Jesse Cope being far in advanced years, son Thomas to James Plantation I formerly lived on in Pike run Township in Washington County, John Baker, Thomas Robinson, Isaac Walker and others. Son in law Mark Deems, my house in Bridgeport, Fayette County. Two daughters Ann Deems, Hannah England, lands adjoining Geroge Riggle, neighbor, James Hope, heirs of Deems, Joseph Mills, Thomas Robinson and other witness: Joshua, John and John Cope jr.
