He was born in Beatrice, W.Va., on Aug. 26, 1921, the son of the late Felix W. and Viola Mae Morehead Deem. He was the last remaining member of his family of four boys and two girls.

He was educated in Ritchie County and served his country as a U.S. Marine in World War II and the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict. He was a welder for 33 years with Boilermakers Local 667, Charleston, W.Va. He was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge 129 in Williamstown and a life-time member of VFW Post 5108 in Marietta.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Georgia Phillips Deem; one daughter, Barbara S. Payton (Wayne) of Springfield, W.Va; three sons, Gary Deem of Lorain, Ohio, Steven D. Deem of Clarksburg and Barton W. Deem (Lori) of Newport, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 1305 Washington Boulevard, Belpre, with Pastor Jim Lynch officiating. Full military rites by the VFW Post 5108 of Marietta will immediately follow services at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Deem Cemetery in Beatrice with Masonic services conducted at the gravesite. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.3
