He was born Aug. 13, 1948, in Wood County, a son of the late James E. and Mary Linger Deem. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a truck driver for Gasel Trucking and Venezia Trucking and was a member of Teamsters Local 175 AFL-CIO. Benny was a member of the Peoples Apostolic Church in Parkersburg.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Helen Life Deem; two sons, Mike Deem and his wife, Tina, of Parkersburg and Joshua Deem of the home; one daughter, Tammy Westfall of Parkersburg; a step daughter, Barbie Jarrell of Parkersburg; four brothers, Bill Deem and wife, Pauline, of Parkersburg, Jimmy Deem and wife, Barbara, of Davisville, Buddy Deem and wife, Cathy, of Smithville and Barry Deem and wife, Mary, of Belleville, W.Va; eight grandchildren, Dustin Westfall, Maryshia Westfall, Makayla Westfall, Bryanne Deem, Mari Deem, Ty Buskirk, Amber Deem and Angel Deem; one step granddaughter, Erin Sydenstricker; and three great-grandchildren, Kiliegh Batton, Logan Sydenstricker and Jacob Batton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one step grandson, Ian Batton.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, south Parkersburg, with Pastor Michael Seebaugh officiating. Burial will be in Skidmore Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. today and until time of services Sunday at the funeral home.1
